What a wild ride this Region has provided! After a successful and very competitive preseason, the Mustangs came into Region ready to roll. After the first round of region games, our Mustangs were 1-5 and tied for the last spot in the standings. However, the record was not indicative of how the boys were playing. After dropping the first two games to Riverton and Westlake, Herriman began to develop a sense of who they are. They hung with American Fork for 3 quarters before struggling to an eventual loss. An 86-75 win over Lehi really got Herriman going and sprung them into extremely exciting games against 2 of the best teams in the entire state. The entire school was still buzzing about the Lone Peak games several days later as the student body realized the potential this Herriman team has.
Fastforward to round 2: David Maynard hits a clutch jumper with 3 seconds left in a 47-45 win over Riverton on the road. 78-65 win over Westlake at home. A dominating 63-47 win over American Fork on the road. All of a sudden, the boys are tied for the 4th playoff spot and seem to have destiny in their own hands. While team captains David Maynard and Alec Johnson have led the team, the supporting cast of Jake Sutton, Devin Wilkins, Tyus Jefferson, Stockton Enger, Jordan Glauser and others have really figured out their role and have had major contributing minutes. In the "Region of Death," this team has come together and made things very interesting so far. Should the Mustangs advance out of the Region and qualify for playoffs, the boys have the experience needed after having a virtual playoff game every night the past few weeks.
